About KV INS Chilka, Bhubaneswar
Kendriya Vidyalaya INS Chilka, founded in September 1981, is more than just a Vidyalaya—it is a sanctuary of learning, nestled in the serene embrace of nature. Created to serve the children of Central Government employees, particularly those of Defence and Para-Military personnel stationed at the Naval Base, this institution is part of the esteemed Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, New Delhi. Under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, KV INS Chilka has become a beacon of educational excellence, nurturing the minds and spirits of over 850 students.
Perched along the tranquil shores of Chilka Lake—the largest lagoon in the subcontinent, spreading across 1,100 square kilometers—KV INS Chilka offers an education that is as expansive and profound as the lake itself. Just 105 kilometers south of Bhubaneswar, along the scenic route of National Highway 5 (Asian Highway 45) and the Howrah-Chennai Railway line, the Vidyalaya is a world apart from the bustling cities, where learning flourishes amidst the whispers of nature.
The Vidyalaya, a two-section institution with classes from I to XII, offers a harmonious blend of Science and Commerce streams at the Higher Secondary level. The campus is alive with possibilities, featuring over twenty-four thoughtfully designed classrooms, well-equipped Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics labs, a well-stocked library, and ample spaces for athletic pursuits including football, volleyball, and kho-kho. Here, students don’t just prepare for exams—they prepare for life, in an environment that celebrates both intellectual rigor and creative exploration.
The lush, green expanse of the campus is not just a backdrop but a living, breathing part of the KV INS Chilka experience. It was this very landscape that inspired the great Odia poet Radhanath Roy to pause and marvel at its beauty, comparing it to a divine canvas.
